Old-Fashioned Goulash Recipe

Written by admin

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups macaroni pasta, uncooked
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Break it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Sauté for a few minutes until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, uncooked macaroni pasta, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. If you like a bit of heat, you can add some red pepper flakes to taste.
  4. Mix all the ingredients well and bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer, cover the skillet, and let it cook for about 20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender. Be sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Check for seasoning and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Once the pasta is cooked and the sauce has thickened, your old-fashioned goulash is ready.
  8. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot.
  9. You can also offer grated Parmesan cheese on the side for those who like some extra cheesy goodness.
