Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, fresh basil, fresh oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, beaten eggs, black pepper, 2 tablespoons of parsley, Parmesan cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  6. In a 13×9-inch baking pan, start assembling the lasagna. Begin with a layer of noodles, followed by a layer of the meat sauce and then a layer of the cheese mixture. Repeat this layering process.
  7. Finish with a final layer of noodles and top with the remaining mozzarella cheese, ensuring that the noodles are completely covered.
  8. Cover the baking pan with foil and bake for about 40-45 minutes. Then, uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling, and the lasagna is heated through.
  9. Let the lasagna rest for 15-20 minutes before cutting and serving. Enjoy your classic homemade lasagna!
